The chances are extremely good that not just one, but several forum members of Tripadvisor.com have been where you want to go.
Vacation Homes.com: You can save a lot of money if you can rent vacation homes directly from the home owners instead of going through a realtor or travel agency. They can get you in contact with home owners around the world. This website has been around for ten years (a virtual Methuselah in the internet universe!) and isn’t going anywhere. They also offer other travel related services.
Vacation Rentals 411.com: This is another international vacation homes directory which is a free service for vacationers; but owners of vacation homes pay a fee to advertise there. They also have an easy to navigate Help page, which included what questions you should ask a homeowner before you agree to pay anything.
