Ultimate Ski Vacations

If you love skiing, think about planning an ultimate ski vacation.

Ultimate ski vacations are usually listed in the web or in travel agency circles as “extreme skiing”.  You can hire a helicopter to take you up a mountain and then you hop off and ski down it.  However, mountains with thin to non-existent oxygen are not used even by the craziest of skiers.  You’d have too much trouble skiing over the mountaineers and sherpas.

Some extreme ski vacation packages include not only the helicopter chair lift, but a sumptuous banquet at the bottom.  In New Zealand – the Garden of Eden of most extreme sports –  there have even been extreme ski vacation packages that included a trip to New Zealand, lodging, car hire, helicopter hire and five course dinner at the top of the mountain.  You can find ski vacations like these on the web or in specialist skiing magazines.  They are very expensive.  Less expensive packages use Snow Cats instead of helicopters.

How do Olympic skiers train in the summer?  Sometimes, they ski down wooden slopes into a large body or water.  The Lake Placid training Center in New York does not let the general public use its ski dive, but they are open to tours.  You could also do some water skiing at Lake Placid, or just about anywhere that allows moving boats.

Another extreme ski vacation is a combination of skydiving and skiing or snowboarding.  Although this hasn’t been officially condone as a new extreme sport, it may be so in the future.  Perhaps you could set up a skydiving vacation and ask to go over a mountain and strap a snowboard to your feet.  They might let you, but not on your first jump.  You never know until you ask.
